(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) ? Expanding its global reach and IT hosting capabilities, SoftLayer? Technologies today announced the opening of its new European headquarters and data center in Amsterdam. Over the next two years the company will invest approximately $75 million in its European operations, which also includes new network PoPs in Amsterdam, London, and Frankfurt.
New and existing customers across Europe, especially the large corporate enterprises, Internet savvy small and medium sized businesses (SMBs), social media and gaming start-ups that make up SoftLayer?s core customer base, will be able to leverage these new capabilities, which will officially ?go live? at the beginning of November. European customers can now easily order SoftLayer?s unique cloud, dedicated, and managed hosting solutions.
?This launch strengthens our foothold across Europe by bringing our services closer to our existing and expanding customer base,? said Lance Crosby, Chief Executive Officer for SoftLayer. ?Proximity to our customers is crucial to driving innovation and improving a better end-user experience. Currently more than 50 percent of our business is done outside North America. Our continued expansion into international markets gives our customers more control and flexibility in the way they manage and build out their cloud infrastructures and services.?
Today, with nearly half of its 23,000 customers coming from more than 140 countries, SoftLayer has an established international customer base and European demand for SoftLayer?s IT hosting services continues to soar across a variety of industries and countries. Companies like Ultra Knowledge, Flumotion, BaseCase and Magma Mobile, which have all adopted SoftLayer solutions and are able to deploy, scale and manage their Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions based on SoftLayer?s private network.
?We needed a scalable and reliable hosting provider with global network capabilities, more than just standard IT bells and whistles, to meet our growing demands,? said Etienne Jambou, Chief Marketing Officer for Magma Mobile. ?SoftLayer provided us with a complete range of IT infrastructure services from development and production environments to web hosting and database management. Thanks to the robustness of SoftLayer?s infrastructure we have been able to remain focused on our core business.?
With the opening of the Amsterdam data center, SoftLayer will have 13 data centers and 16 PoPs worldwide. Each data center is functionally independent with distinct and redundant resources, as well as fully integrated with all SoftLayer facilities. The company?s global network fully integrates three distinct and redundant network architectures?public, private, and data center to data center?into the industry?s first Network-Within-a-Network topology for maximum accessibility, security, and control.
?The market opportunity for providing hosting and cloud solutions is still in its infancy,? said Melanie A. Posey, IDC Research Vice President, Hosting & Managed Network Services. ?Companies like SoftLayer are taking the lead in establishing a globally accessible network that is helping push the adoption of these computing models to a broader mainstream audience. The addition of the new data center and capabilities will provide a foundation for users to securely run a complete gamut of solutions and services based on SoftLayer?s unique Intellectual Property (IP) and turnkey offerings.?
