MGM boards Sony's 'Tattoo' to co-finance

MGM has come onboard as a financial partner on Sony's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," which David Fincher is directing from a script by Steve Zaillian. Sony will handle marketing and distribution, while MGM will handle select international TV licensing on the crime pic. Project is part of Sony and MGM's recent pact to explore co-financing opportunities on upccoming features. The studios recently partnered on "Bond 23," which is set to hit theaters Nov. 9, 2012. MGM and Sony have the Kevin James comedy "Zookeeper" opening July 8. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is adapted from the first book in Swedish author Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, which Sony envisions as a film franchise. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara star in the pic, which is scheduled for release on Dec. 21. A teaser trailer is expected to hit soon.
