The Humane Society of the United States recently crossed the 1 million fan milestone on Facebook, and now the group is asking its fans for 1 million reasons why they love their pets.
Fans can go to the society's Facebook page and fill in their story and submit a photo, under the "A?Million Reasons" tab.
Here's a video that the organization put together to commemorate having 1 million Facebook users "like" them and to encourage people to send in their pet tales:
As you can well imagine, people are not shy when it comes to sharing their pet pics and stories, so the entries have been streaming in since the organization announced its million mark Nov. 2.
Founded in 1954, the Humane Society works for animal welfare around the world, and many probably know it as the place that rescues strays so animal lovers can adopt them at animal shelters.
Crossing the 1 million fan threshold on Facebook put it alongside groups such as the US Olympic Team (1.1 million), The UEFA Champions League (1.1 million) and The Canal Football Club (1.2 million). But at?1,007,534, the Humane Society doesn't even break into the bottom of the Facebook Page Leaderboard, as measured by AllFacebook.
Nearly 3,000 fan pages do break that barrier, and it ranges from a page called "I always look at your page because I miss you :-(" at the bottom (No. 2,970) to The Cranberries at 1.5 million, to Lady Gaga at almost 45 million and Facebook itself, the reigning champ at 55 million.?
Chip company Frito-Lay set the world record in April for most Facebook fans in a day: 1.5 million, due to promos such as live cooking demos and a FarmVille tie-in.?
