Venture capital can be a rather complicated set-up for beginners in the business world. While there may be lots of resources available on the topic, these articles are sometimes too technical for the ordinary person.

The definition of venture capital, in simple terms, is investment money provided by professional capitalists and venture capital firms to promising companies in the hope that it will make more money after a few years. Aside from its definition, here are some things to discuss about this subject.

Venture fund has a relatively short lifespan. The goal, then, is to maximize profit within a short time span. These capitalists and investors have developed strategies and business plans that are ?proven? to yield results, but this is not the case always. Remember that their aim is a return of investment in a short time and not a lifelong business.

Aside from the profits that they seek to have, they also charge certain fees to pay their management staff. These fees are also taken out of the fund, making it run out sooner than expected.

As a general rule, only 10% of the investments become successful. If that were the case, perhaps you?d wonder why these companies continue to operate. Since these firms have tons of money, they?ve somehow managed to branch out their investments in several companies. The key to success, then, is to make more good investments to offset the losses. So when everything is taken into consideration, they end up gaining more than they?ve invested.

If you consider this option, be prepared to lose control over your company for a couple of years. Because these investors and firms have spent big bucks to help you put up your company, they also have a say on how things get done. We?re talking of major stakes here, not just a couple of hundred dollars that you borrowed from a friend.

They usually assign somebody to sit as members of the board to take part and know the decisions that you make as CEO of the company. At the same time, they report to the firm what they think of how you run things, which can be crucial should you need additional capital later on.

Venture capital is one way to get into business with minimal capital. But remember that together with it are several requirements that you must comply with. These firms have developed plans which may have proved to be effective for past businesses.

But while it may have achieved success at one instance, it is not a guarantee that the same will happen to your business. There is therefore the possibility of failure. While it may be difficult and the stakes are rather high, the gains that you may receive later are sure to outweigh the demands and difficulties that you face at present.

Here?s hoping that this article made you understand the definition of venture capital better. To have more information, it is best to seek help from a professional. Ask a financial expert on the pros and cons of venture capital and how it can be availed.

He can also help prepare your business proposal to make it more attractive to capitalists and angel investors. There are a few websites which provide this type of service.

Grudi Associates Utilizes New 4G LTE Wireless Technology to ...

Palmyra, PA (PRWEB) April 01, 2012

Grudi Associates utilizes 4G/LTE to make wireless an affordable, high-quality option for achieving true route diversity in an Internet backup system. Many companies provision a backup/redundant Internet connection, but few actually achieve true route diversity. Simply using a different carrier that follows the same pathway from the central office is not good enough. For complete backup protection, a connection from a different carrier using a different route, especially over the last mile connection is necessary. Grudi Associates wireless backup solutions make it viable for small and medium size businesses.

Almost all telco carriers and cable providers share the same route to deliver their services through the local loop between the business and the carriers central office, says Walt Grudi, President of Grudi Associates, a leading provider of telecom and IT services in Central PA and beyond. If there is an equipment failure or damage to that local route, the Internet connection will fail. Such failures account for more than 90% of all outages. For maximum backup protection route diversity is needed. A 4G LTE wireless connection can cost-effectively provide it.

Vital Internet connections through landlines are vulnerable to disruptions from a variety of factors related to:

Physical damage to local loop cables caused by weather, traffic accidents, construction, vandalism and other events.
Equipment failure of the local loop switches, circuitry and components.
Network failures caused by equipment and system problems occurring outside the local loop.

To guard against these service interruptions using landlines, companies need two different carriers using separate routes for their lines, which then enter the business through widely separated access points, usually on opposite ends of the building. This is typically a very expensive solution that is affordable only for larger companies and organizations.

4G/LTE has crossed an important threshold by increasing the speed of data transfer enough to make it practical for businesses. It is now possible to wirelessly connect virtually any application or system across the Internet and achieve good or excellent results. This creates an important and invaluable opportunity for companies to implement a high-quality, affordable backup system with true route diversity.

A 4G/LTE backup system offers significant advantages for many businesses:

Speed 4G/LTE now has download speeds of 10-20 mbps and 5 mbps uploads; that is 10-20 times faster than 3G and more than adequate for most needs.
Wireless not dependent of poles, wires or landline hardware associated with the vulnerable local loop.
Lower Latency 4G/LTE has a latency of less than 50 ms, which is required for real-time video streaming and voice.
Data and Voice good for Internet and VoIP backup redundancy.
Coverage 4G/LTE has improved in-building penetration.
Footprint national coverage is good and growing.
Installation completed in a few days, compared with 60-120 days for landline dual-entrance facilities.
Simplicity simple to set up and requires very little hardware.

4G/LTE wireless Internet backup is well-suited for small and mid-size companies that rely on their Internet connections to do business. It is excellent for the vast majority of their regular activities and applications. It may not be the best solution for extremely large data usage because wireless carriers charge on a measured usage basis. Extensive streaming of video, music and multimedia may exceed the current plan, and that can quickly become cost prohibitive for everyday use.

'Texting lane' just for laughs, but issue serious

Pedestrians walk through an "e-lane" Monday, April 2, 2012, in Philadelphia. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter used April Fool's Day to have a little fun with what he says is a real problem: distracted walking. City officials painted lines and oblivious stick-figure pictures on one stretch of John F. Kennedy Boulevard near City Hall as a jab at pedestrians who keep their eyes on their cellphone screens and not their surroundings. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? The sidewalk lanes for the digitally distracted may be a joke but officials in Philadelphia want the public to know the issue is no laughing matter.

Lines on some sidewalks near City Hall now designate part of the pavement as "e-lanes" suitable for chronic texters and digital music aficionados ? although only through the end of the week.

The April Fools' Day prank is one way city officials, in particular Mayor Michael Nutter, are trying to draw attention to the danger of inattentive pedestrians.

The lines, signage and sidewalk graphics ? depicting a pedestrian peering down at a hand-held device ? will stick around part of John F. Kennedy Boulevard through the week.

A bogus video released for the new lanes shows Nutter being cut off mid-interview by an oblivious pedestrian, played by Streets Department Deputy Commissioner Steven Buckley.

"Sidewalk safety is important," Nutter noted just after his mock interview was disrupted. The video also features a rowdy band of anti-texting protesters.

All kidding aside, officials said distracted pedestrians are a serious issue the city plans to address.
