Do Your Own Home be Needed by You Based ... - The Penhall Family

Do you really need your own Home Based Information Products Marketing Business?Hey, if you?re on the list of super wealthy like Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, or if you are a star like Charlie Sheen or Ashton Kutcher, you probably don?t need your own home based business in order to survive.Yes, even though poor Charlie was fired from Two and a Men, he was well paid for a long time at about 2 million dollars per episode and probably has a few dollars tucked away for a wet day. And think about Charlie Sheen?s alternative, Ashton Kutcher? At a reported income of 700,000 dollars per event plus incentives, I actually do not believe he requires a home based business to be able to remain afloat. So, if you are a hollywood or among the super wealthy, you probably don?t need certainly to start your own home based information marketing business. But, how about the remainder of us?I believe we ought to all be starting and building our own home based information products marketing business. Even though we have an excellent work today. Even if you start it just as a sideline to generate extra this bad economy to money. In, and even prior to the economy tanked, thousands of people found out that a good job may disappear in a minute like a puff of smoke. I came across that out myself 3 x in my career.Would not you rather be ready for that, by having your own home based business to drop back on if you need to?Maybe the task you?ve now could be not so good, or you really do not like it and you would want to have the freedom to just say goodbye and go do your own thing.Or, you may be retired, or soon-to-be-retired, and you?re thinking how you?re likely to complement your meager Social Security Checks.A good home based information products and services advertising business may help you do all of that. Why I really believe you do require your own home based information marketing business.Millions of men and women dream of beginning their own home based business that?s. Are you currently one particular millions? It is wonderful if you are, but please do not end up like lots of the dreamers who sometimes follow after each new ?opportunity? and never really succeed, or dream and dream, but never start. Or, they do begin some type of property business and then give up too early. Achievement doesn?t come as rapidly as they anticipated so they lose faith, or do not know what to accomplish next.If you dream of having your own home business, you can finally take up a legitimate home business that?s the best possibility of being successful. Why wait any longer?Imagine being able to concentrate on one good home based business, data goods marketing, so you can quit wasting your time and money trying out every new ?opportunity? that looks good. Imagine starting your own info-products marketing house based business and becoming effective in it.You could be asking ?Can I Be Successful With My Own Home Based Information Products Marketing Business??I believe it is possible to! But, you?ve to do it. I can not take action for you personally. All I will do is support you along the way with articles like this, and to ask you take a peek at the several data items advertising relevant internet sites and websites on the internet. Just do a Google search, as an example, utilising the search term ?information goods advertising property based business.? Review the information provided by the web sites that derive from your search and then get started.Just tune in to a couple of examples of people like you who began with little or nothing and earned a good part-time income, or even mega-bucks marketing information:I am an excellent example as somebody who moonlighted and made some great part-time additional income with information marketing. I was working for a department of a medium-sized business as their Marketing Manager. I decided I had to do some thing quietly so I could ultimately escape the organization rat race. One of the things I enjoyed doing in my own spare time was painting with oil paints or acrylic paint. Over the years, I had found several good methods to spend less on art and art supplies and chose to help other artists and craftspeople do the same. Therefore I wrote and self-published just a little 32 page pamphlet titled ?How To Save Up To 60 Percent On Art And Craft Supplies.? It cost 50 cents to me to produce and it was sold by me for 5 dollars. Throughout a few years I bought almost 8,000 copies and earned 39,213 dollars in revenue. I am number Charlie Sheen or Ashton Kutcher, so I really appreciated the additional money.A classic example of a fortune was earned by someone who in information advertising (a lot more than I made) is Joe Karbo. Joe was one of the those who encouraged me to start my own, personal data marketing area business.Joe was facing bankruptcy when he lost his high paying job. He spoke a number of lawyers to see how he could avoid a bankruptcy. In the process he learned just how to discuss with his creditors and made a decision to publish a, ?The Power of Money Management?, which he bought using direct response adverts in journals and local papers in the Southern California region. The book was a success overnight and Joe prevented bankruptcy.Later, through the mid 70?s, he published yet another book in just six days that has become an Classic??The Lazy Man?s Method to Riches.? He offered nearly three thousand copies at 10 dollars each. I bought a copy and I loved it.Ted Nicholas, yet another information marketing uniform, tells the story of Matt Furry. Matt is a person who adopted Ted?s case. His Internet business was begun by matt in 1995. He was 50,000 pounds with debt. He had to scrape together 317 dollars to get one of Ted?s home-study courses. Ted used the subject ?You a Millionaire Writer?? in his offer for the course, which fascinated Matt enough to buy it.Ted says that so far, Matt has offered a fantastic 30 thousand dollars worth of information products on the Internet. Ted describes Matt?s organization as lean and mean with no personnel and no debt. Wow! I am inspired by that. What about you?Dan Kennedy, a tiny business advertising expert, tells the story of somebody he knows who works a 750 thousand pounds per year information business basically off of a dining table, just trying to sell information to pot-bellied pig entrepreneurs. How?s that for a niche that sure does not seem like it may support that degree of business?Tim Kerber, a membership site pro, uses one of his ?student?s? knowledge as an incident study of exactly what do be performed with data advertising membership sites. His student is Carrie Wilkerson. Carrie is a mom who began her business with no experience and a child on her arm. Carrie is currently considered an expert in her own right, is just a popular public speaker, has 10,000 people on her set of prospects and clients, and was reported to be on course to produce six figures in her first year. And she did all of this within just a year.I may go on forever with data marketing success story after success story. I love being encouraged by others who have done it. But, that is enough for you to have the idea. Even though I know, and you know, these benefits are not standard, you can note that with some amount of skills and abilities, an excellent work ethic, focus, endurance, and action, success is possible. You can do it!Selling information has been described by information marketer Terry Dean as the most exciting and satisfying business any businessman can, or ever will be, involved with.Millions of dollars worth of information goods are being sold each day throughout the world. All of the important success stories on line include trying to sell information in a single kind or another.OK. Think about you?If you?re not Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Charlie Sheen or Ashton Kutcher, Isn?t it time you started by yourself achievement quest as an ?Infopreneur??

At the time of the study Virginia was 67 years old, diagnosed with MS and Parkinson?s disease and completely wheel chair bound. She was at a different facility prior to coming to Walnut Ridge, and she was told that her only option was to be in a nursing home. Upon hearing that and doing some more research with her doctors, she?ended?up at the Walnut Ridge campus where she begun to work with Nick in the HydroWorx 1200 series therapy pool. At the time of the video, he had been working with her for 2-3 months and noticed significant improvements. ?At the starting point Virginia could not bear any of her own weight and the MS affected her left side, therefore affecting her posture. Since beginning aquatic therapy in the pool, her lower extremities have gotten stronger,?flexibility?improved, and her core strength has increased greatly. Increasing her core strength has then improved her posture and stamina, therefore enabling her to perform daily tasks as well as play the piano again! To get the full story about her amazing transformation, watch the full video here.

Keep Calm and Love Affectionately: Kids Need to See Affection ...

Marriage

by Sheree Adams ?|? on September 25th, 2012 ?|?

?Don?t worry that your children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you?. ~ Robert Fulghum

Truer words have never been spoken. Just last week, my husband called home. We were running around, so I put him on speakerphone. As I was rushing our kindergartener out the door to catch the bus, she briefly spoke to him and ended the conversation with her usual: ?I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!? I abruptly yelled toward the phone and said: ?Let me get her out to the bus?call ya back!? My daughter immediately looked up at me and said in a worried voice, ?Wait! Mom, don?t YOU love him??? You didn?t SAY it!!? I was speechless. I said: ?Honey I was in hurry. Of course I love him!?

I shared my daughter?s concern with my husband in brief conversation, but I really wanted to delve a little bit deeper. You see, for most of my life, I grew up in a single parent household with the closest example of what a healthy couple looked like being my adorable grandparents ? who by the way have been married for 60 years! ?My husband and I discussed a while back that kids need to see us being affectionate towards one another and for us not to sneak kisses or use PDA discreetly, especially while we are in the comfort of our home.

What sparked the conversation back then was, as a newlywed, my husband smacked me on my butt in front of my then 5-year-old. I FREAKED OUT!! He told me to calm down and that it was just his way of being affectionate. Then it hit me (no pun intended), I remembered my grandfather doing the same thing to my grandma, so of course this was harmless. He said his dad did the same thing to his mom. ?And if I remember correctly, on Good Times, I ?remember that James Evans use to do the same thing to Florida a time or two! LOL

All in all, its equally important for our kids not only?to feel like their parents are in a healthy relationship, but also to ?see? it. When they are older, began to ?talk? about quality traits to look for in a mate. Now that my husband and I have been reminded that we are on closed circuit TV and monitored carefully by our offspring, we can now ?Keep Calm and Love Affectionately?. ?It was definitely a little eye-opener for us to behave and act accordingly. It?s also refreshing to know that my daughter, at age 5, knows that ?I love you?s? should be exchanged frequently and to put us in check even if we didn?t know we needed it!

BMWK, are you on and your mate on your P?s and Q?s in front of your ?kids?

Obama THANKS Egyptian President For Protecting US Embassy After Protesters Storm Grounds & Torch US Flag

Storm the US Embassy ? Get a Thank You Note?
It?s the Obama Way.

Barack Obama sent a letter to Egypt?s Muslim Brotherhood President after protesters stormed the embassy and torched the US flag.

Hundreds of protesters stormed the walls of the compound on 9-11, torched the US flag and started raising the black Islamic flag.

Reuters reported:

President Barack Obama has thanked the Egyptian president for securing the U.S. Embassy during protests against a film made in the United States that mocked Prophet Mohammad and sparked worldwide demonstrations and violence.

Obama?s rival in the U.S. presidential race, Mitt Romney, called for a tougher line with Egypt after protesters scaled the compound wall and tore down the U.S. flag on September 11.

Police clashed with demonstrators for four days after that incident and barriers were erected to stop them getting near the compound.

In a letter, Obama repeated Washington?s condemnation of the film and said he looked forward to working with President Mohamed Mursi to build on the ?strategic partnership?, Mursi?s official Facebook page said on Sunday.

?In his letter, President Obama thanked the Egyptian president for Egyptian efforts to secure the mission of the United States in Cairo,? according to the site.

South Carolina State Vs. Texas A&M Final Score: Aggies Win Rout, 70-14

The Texas A&M Aggies used a huge second quarter to bury the South Carolina State Bulldogs on their way to a 70-14 win on Saturday night in College Station.

Freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel played only one half, but put together quite a stat line while scoring four straight touchdowns for the Aggies. To start the second quarter, Manziel rushed for touchdowns of 39 and 20 yards. He followed that up with two touchdown passes: a 30-yard score to Kenric McNeal, and a 37-yard strike to Uzoma Nwachukwu.

After Ben Malena added a 50-yard touchdown run, Texas A&M had a 49-7 halftime lead and the game was very much over. Texas A&M scored the only points of the third quarter when Dustin Harris returned a punt 96 yards for a touchdown.

When the game mercifully reached its end, the Aggies had outgained South Carolina State, 448-223.

Box Score Hero: QB Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M. In one half, the freshman was 15-20 for 174 yards and three touchdowns through the air, with 78 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.

Rankings Ramifications: Texas A&M was well outside of the top 25, and this game will not likely change that.

But Did They Cover? A line of 45.5 isn't always easy to cover, but Texas A&M did just that.

For More On This Game: Visit Texas A&M blog Good Bull Hunting.

Next Week's Schedule: South Carolina State returns to MEAC play against Norfolk State. Texas A&M hosts Arkansas in its second SEC game of the year.

Woman jailed for not deleting Facebook posts

57 min.

A woman was jailed after ignoring a judge?s order to delete her Facebook account after comments she made on the site about her own reckless driving prompted the order.

According to Louisville, Ky., NBC affiliate WAVE, victims of a hit-and-run car accident, in which Paula Asher was allegedly at fault, were so upset by her post that the court had to step in. "My dumb (expletive) got a dui and I hit a car?lol,? Asher wrote on her Facebook profile soon after the incident took place.

The careless status update apparently prompted the parents of the four teenagers who were in the other car at the time to notify District Judge Mary Jane Phelps about the statement who, in turn, demanded that Asher disable her page. When she did not comply, Phelps slapped Asher with a two-day jail sentence for contempt of court.

"I really wasn't trying to make fun of (the crash)," Asher said.

According to Lex18.com, a Lexington, Ky., NBC news site, police believe Asher's car struck a vehicle that four teens were riding in and then fled the scene of the accident before police arrived.

It's unclear if Asher was ordered not to discuss the case prior to creating the post. It's also unclear under which law Phelps ordered Asher to stop using Facebook.

Asher will be back in court with Phelps to face the charges outlined in her Facebook post on on Sept. 27.

"I apologize to everybody," she said. "I apologize to the judge. I didn't mean to hurt anybody," Asher said.? "I didn't think 'lol' would put me in jail."

Why Humanity Needs to Travel to Other Stars

HOUSTON ? Launching a mission to another star could teach us not just about space, but about Earth as well, experts argued here today at the 100 Year Starship Symposium.

"I believe space exploration is a human imperative," said Mae Jemison, the first female African American astronaut. "It didn?t begin in 1957 with Sputnik, it's been a part of us" all along.

Jemison is heading the 100 Year Starship initiative, which aims to mount a mission to another star within 100 years. Toward that end, scientists and thinkers from a variety of disciplines gathered for a public symposium here from Sept. 13 to 16 to discuss the motivations, challenges and possible solutions for pursuing interstellar spaceflight.

"I'm excited for the opportunity we have to pioneer tomorrow's technology and to reimagine our future," former President Bill Clinton, who is the symposium's honorary chair, said via a video address today (Sept. 14). "I only wish I could be here 100 years from now to make the trip."?

The 100 Year Starship project was founded with seed money from the Defense Advanced Research Projects agency (DARPA), and is now being run by Jemison's Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence. The program's leaders aim to recruit not just scientists and engineers, but psychologists, sociologists, religious leaders and philosophers to help solve the problems posed by interstellar travel.?[Gallery: Visions of Interstellar Starship Travel]

Because the nearest star is more than 4 light-years away, the fastest spacecraft ever built, Voyager 1, would take 75,000 years to get there. A realistic mission to another star system will require novel propulsion methods, as well as new life support, habitat technology and social structures to support what could be multiple generations of astronauts making the journey.

"We need the full capacity of the people we have on this planet to figure out how to do this," Jemison said. She also stressed the importance of outreach to involve the public in the project. "I know that we would be on the moon right now if we had kept the American public involved. They didn?t leave us, we just left them out. We have to change the idea that space is just for rocket scientists, and nowadays billionaires. It's actually for everybody."

The payoff of such a mission could be felt not just in space but on the ground, she said. For example, one of the leading ideas for how to power a starship is nuclear fusion propulsion. Since fusion is also a potential way to create energy on Earth, the process of inventing such a technology for spaceflight could have applications for our planet, too.

"Just the mere idea of going might transform life on Earth right now," Jemison said.

Advantages of Buying Gold As an Purchase

The most basic advantage of gold bullion is that it is very simple to get. There are many types of gold coin: KRUGERRANDS, SOVEREIGNS, US EAGLES, CANADIAN MAPLES. GOLD BARS, SILVER Money, BARS And also BULLION. Finished . about gold is the fact that it's always hedged in opposition to inflation, similar to the stock market piling in 2007, and the expense of gold rising, causing gold investors very happy with their ventures of gold-coin investment portfolios. Bullion is also very water, which means that gold coin is extremely easy to obtain and sell on the market. When you need funds for something, gold will always be completely ready to be sold for some kind of currency in the nation the gold coin is sold in. Almost all gold-bullion distributors in addition to sells will certainly buy gold money back from you, simply because they know the power that gold has.

Even though purchasing a part of jewelry you have to pay for turning it into. However, this does not apply if you purchase a coin. This is merely because a coin can be minted rather than designed in the same way as necklaces.

Having resolved that you want to invest with gold, what is the best method to start purchasing gold? Gold jewelery is one option, but you may find that the mark-up in all jewelery is very high which it precludes you obtaining it in addition to possibly the strange piece either for yourself or even a loved one.

Acquiring silver coins pertaining to investment reasons is indeed a great idea. The utter range of products obtainable makes it an interesting option to leverage. Though many people stick to silver gold bullion, preferring your antique silver coin around others is also a common trend. Owing to their low prices in comparison to other silver and gold coins like platinum and gold, silver money are much less complicated to exchange for money. Moreover, this modest costs also provides enough protection versus inflation. Moreover, due to a lesser amount of speculation, the particular trading investing arenas are more or less stable. Therefore, risk of trading is minimized to some extent. In addition, the future appears promising far too! Industrial advancement is likely to thrust the prices involving silver further up. Therefore, when you invest in silver silver coins, you not only protect your hard earned money from a price tag decline, you need to the options of promoting them in return for handsome increases in future.

Silver money, are a popular way to hedge versus inflation and also balance collection risk. It's historically been the most affordable rare metal. Unlike Gold, Silver purchases do not have to end up being reported. It offers unique homes, which make the item ideal and essential for world-wide industry.

And helps to create a situation high is simply simply no substitute. Silver possesses huge business applications. It's found in many everything from cell phones to computers. Because worlds thurst intended for electronics continues to grow, the same is true the demand for more silver. Furthermore, the medical industry has found nearly as many ways to utilize silver as the manufacturing world. These applications causes it to be a consumable investment. Rather than just another good looks.

However, several unique investment analyzer and economist who've researched most of the precious metals exchange traded funds now suspect that many ETF share rates may not be exclusively strapped to the actual effectiveness of the precious metal itself. This is the very important stage.
My advice is to usually do your own due diligence and carefully research every single ETF previous to investing in any ETFs.

Three Penn State scientists have received national honors for their pioneering research, begun more than 40 years ago, that led to the development of implant materials widely used today in human bone and joint repairs. Della Roy, Eugene W. White, and the late Jon N. Weber were among eight researchers nationwide recognized with the newly created Golden Goose award, sponsored by American Association of Universities and other educational and scientific organizations.

The Golden Goose Award demonstrates the human and economic benefits of federally funded research by highlighting examples of seemingly obscure studies that have led to major breakthroughs and benefited society in significant ways. The name of the award is based on the fable about the goose that laid golden eggs.

"Penn State conducts more than $800 million in annual research, providing thousands of jobs across the Commonwealth," said Henry C. "Hank"

Foley, vice president for research and dean of the graduate school. "Seeing this recognition for the positive impact on countless lives that a handful of those faculty have had over decades is exciting. This kind of impact is occurring every day through the work of our world class faculty and researchers."

In the early 1970s, White and Weber discovered that certain types of South Pacific coral had the same porous, interconnected microstructure as human bone. The discovery's importance was based on the fact that the human body often detects the foreign origin of implants, sometimes rejecting them outright, but never fully integrating them. A material was needed that encouraged natural tissue to grow into it, locking it in place and forming a protective layer.

Weber, a marine geologist, had a piece of coral scanned at Penn State's Materials Research Laboratory. Materials scientist White happened to see it and noticed its mazelike pore structure -- the same kind of extremely small, interconnected pore structure that might encourage natural tissue growth.

Since natural corals themselves are too brittle to implant, White, Weber and Rodney White, then a medical student at the State University of New York at Syracuse, used them as molds to make replicas. The coral was machined to the desired shape and impregnated with wax. The coral was then dissolved, yielding a wax "negative," which was then infused with ceramic material -- which materials scientist Roy helped to develop -- yielding a prosthetic that had the intricate porosity of natural bone.

Meanwhile, in related research, Roy perfected a process for "pressure-cooking" coral in a vessel containing a phosphate solution. Phosphate replaced the carbonate in the coral, giving it many of the chemical and mechanical properties of human bone and almost eliminating the probability of rejection. While not as strong as metal implants made via the wax method, the processed coral could be machined to the desired shape and worked well as a material for pins, screws and other hardware in low-stress bone and joint repairs.

These methods of producing bone replacement materials were patented and licensed, and have since been widely adopted. The federally funded research conducted by Roy, White and Weber enabled major advances in implant surgery and dramatically improved the quality of life for countless thousands of people.

Roy is currently professor emerita of materials science. Eugene White left the University in 1977. Weber died in 1976.

Ex-Goldman employee's memoir expected on October 22: report

(Reuters) - Greg Smith, the former Goldman Sachs Group Inc employee who publicly resigned from the investment bank in a scathing op-ed in March, has written a memoir that will be published next month, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

The book, titled "Why I Left Goldman Sachs", is set for publication on October 22, the Times said.

Smith quit as an executive director at Goldman after writing an op-ed in the Times on March 14 that accused the firm of routinely ripping off clients. He also wrote that top management had morphed Goldman into a "toxic and destructive" place that put profits ahead of all else.

Smith's book is expected to provide an inside look at how Goldman operates, based on his 12-year career at the bank.

Goldman, which conducted an internal review after Smith's op-ed ran, has said there was no substance to his assertions.

"Every day, some young professional, after a decade in a post-collegiate job, reassesses his or her career and decides to move on and do something else," Goldman spokesman David Wells said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Others can better judge whether Mr. Smith's particular career transition is of unique interest."

A spokeswoman for Hachette Book Group, whose Grand Central Publishing division is publishing Smith's memoir, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Thunderstorms delay flights, snarl traffic in Vegas area, flood homes in Southern California

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Intense thunderstorms drenched parts of the Southwest on Tuesday, delaying flights and stranding motorists in the Las Vegas area and flooding two mobile home parks in Southern California.

East of downtown Las Vegas, television news video showed yellow school buses inching slowly along swamped roads in some neighbours and muddy brown water up to the lower window sills of stucco homes in others.

A Twitter photo showed dozens of cars submerged in water up to their headlights in a parking lot outside a University of Nevada, Las Vegas sports arena.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm and flash-flood warnings before and after almost an inch of rain was reported at McCarran International Airport just before 2 p.m.

Departures were postponed and arrivals were delayed after the airport ordered a stop on fueling operations during lightning strikes, airport spokeswoman Linda Healey said.

Firefighters responded to more than 20 calls about people in stalled cars, county spokesman Dan Kulin said. A Las Vegas police helicopter was dispatched during the height of the storm to pluck several people from swamped vehicles on area roadways, Officer Bill Cassell said.

After responding to numerous 911 calls, officials in Clark County, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Las Vegas said Tuesday there were no confirmed reports of serious injuries.

National Weather Service meteorologist Michael Staudenmaier said more than 1.75 inches of rain were reported in downtown Las Vegas.

The rainfall amounts put the region on pace to exceed the 4.5 inches of rain it normally gets in a year, he said.

However, National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Sukup said the Nevada showers weren't part of the same storm system that doused parts of Southern California.

There, a thunderstorm that dropped more than the average annual rainfall on parts of the Coachella Valley in one night alone caused flooding at two mobile home parks, forced road closures and dampened a school, officials said Tuesday.

The early morning thunderstorm stalled for six to eight hours over Mecca and Thermal, two towns at the southern tip of the Coachella Valley 150 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Thermal is about eight miles from Indio, Calif., where the annual Coachella Music Festival is held.

The storm dropped 5.51 inches of rain near Mecca and 3.23 inches of rain near Thermal, meteorologist Mark Moede said. The average annual rainfall in Thermal is just shy of 3 inches, he said.

"That's an amazing amount of rain," Moede said. "It's unusual anywhere to get a storm that sits stationary for five to eight hours. The fact that it occurred in the southern part of the Coachella Valley is even more unusual because it's typically a very arid part of the country."

In Thermal, the downpour flooded the Desert Mobile Home Park better known as Duroville, causing the park to lose one of its wells and creating concerns about overflow from sewage ponds used to treat waste, said Ray Smith, a Riverside County spokesman.

County fire crews assessed the water and electrical systems and were providing water to the park. Residents also were advised to boil water, he said.

Several Duroville homes remained without power late Tuesday afternoon. About 1,400 people live in the park, but it wasn't immediately clear if any evacuated due to the flooding. A voluntary evacuation centre was established in Mecca.

St. Anthony's Mobile Home Park in Mecca also was affected, Smith said, but fared better than Duroville. Video clips showed Mecca residents wading through streets with water reaching their knees and cars creeping through flooded residential streets.

Flooding also was reported at Mecca's Saul Martinez Elementary School, but students doubled up in some classes and the school remained open, The Desert Sun newspaper reported.

Meanwhile, some southern Utah residents also were dealing with flooding because of a broken dike.

Officials in Santa Clara were inspecting whether people could return to more than 30 homes and businesses that were evacuated after the Tuesday break flooded nearly four square blocks.

City Manager Edward Dickie said the dike along a retention pond broke open after heavy morning rains, sending a deluge of water into downtown.

"It didn't just breach. It broke. It's gone," he said, adding that the flooding quickly receded as water drained into rivers and creeks.

Some streets through town remained closed late in the day as authorities assessed the damage and waited for floodwaters to recede. No injuries were reported.

Crews used sandbags to shore up the broken dike and stave off the potential for additional flooding if the rain returns.

Flaccus reported from Santa Ana, Calif. Associated Press writers Shaya Mohajer in Los Angeles and Brian Skoloff in Salt Lake City contributed to this report.

Man on the Moon (1999): Getting Used to the New Condition

Man on the Moon (1999): Getting Used to the New Condition

The clip getting used to the new condition from Man on the Moon (1999) No more Kaufman stories. He's burned us too many times. A very reliable source told me, Andy Kaufman has lung cancer. Please, he's definitely not dying. Now those big white cells are attacking the cancer cells. Attacking. Attacking. I see them. I see the white cells. Attacking. Attacking. Attacking. Attacking. He's an actor. I recognize him from The In-Laws! That's true. But he's also ordained in holistic medicine. What am I supposed to do? I'm sick and I'm tryin' to get better, but everybody's lookin' at me funny. I feel like I'm being surrounded by negative energy. You're surrounded by what you create. Oh, great. Andy, you're the king of negative energy. It's gotta stop. Andy. 'Cause if these negative vibes get out, then everyone'll talk about how sick I am. And it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. How can I help you? I want to go back to work. You want to tour the clubs? No, no clubs. I want to reach the top. Carnegie Hall! I just want this show to build and build!

Why Switzerland Has The Lowest Crime Rate In The World

Why Switzerland Has The Lowest Crime Rate In The World

When thinking about the mass extermination camps of a holocaust think.. The key to freedom is to be able to have the ability to defend yourself &, if you dont have the tools to do that, then youre going to be at the mercy of whomever wants to put you away. Guns are deeply rooted within Swiss culture - but the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept. The country has a population of six million, but there are estimated to be at least two million publicly-owned firearms, including about 600,000 automatic rifles and 500,000 pistols. This is in a very large part due to Switzerland's unique system of national defence, developed over the centuries. Instead of a standing, full-time army, the country requires every man to undergo some form of military training for a few days or weeks a year throughout most of their lives. Between the ages of 21 and 32 men serve as frontline troops. They are given an M-57 assault rifle and 24 rounds of ammunition which they are required to keep at home. Once discharged, men serve in the Swiss equivalent of the US National Guard, but still have to train occasionally and are given bolt rifles. Women do not have to own firearms, but are encouraged to.

FDA OKs Cancer Drugs Faster Than Other Meds // Pharmalot

For those banking on new cancer treatments becoming available in the US, a new analysis should offer some encouragement. The FDA, it turns out, approves cancer drugs faster than medications for other ailments. What?s more, the FDA approves cancer drugs faster than European regulators as well, according to the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development.

Specifically, FDA approval times for cancer meds between 2007 and 2011 took 10 months less than for other drugs, while approval times by the European Medicines Agency took two months less time, Tufts reports. Looked at another way, the EMA took 54 percent more time to approve cancer meds, although the EMA took 27 percent less time to approve other drugs. Cancer drugs as a share of total approvals at the FDA and the EMA were 19 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, orphan designations for cancer meds in the US rose during the past decade, but the share of fast track and accelerated approval designations dropped sharply (see chart). Between 2007 and 2011, 39 percent of FDA orphan approvals were for oncology drugs, up from 31 percent between 2002 and 2006, Tufts writes. Similarly, 37 percent of EMA orphan approvals were for cancer meds between 2007 and 2011, up from 28 percent during the earlier part of the decade.

However, designation status had little impact on cancer drug approval times between 2007 and 2011. FDA approval times for all meds were about half those of the EMA, regardless of designation. But within each agency, approval times for cancer meds were similar, with just a 13 percent and 1 percent difference, at the EMA and FDA respectively, depending on designation. Yet in Europe, cancer approvals with orphan status during the past decade rose from 35 percent to 45 percent, according to Tufts (here is the statement).

Meanwhile, total development time for new molecular entities and biological license applications for all approvals in the US was eight years between 2002 and 2006, but 7.4 years between 2007 and 2011. And as noted, approval times for cancer meds were 10 months shorter. Why? The likelihood that developing cancer meds mean relying on smaller patient populations and longer periods in which to evaluate patient responses, Tufts writes.

Overall, total development time for all new meds shortened during the past decade. Between 2002 and 2006 in the US, total development time for oncology new biological entity took nearly two years longer than non-oncology NBEs ? 8.9 vs. 7.0 years. And total development time for oncology new chemical entities took about six months less than non-oncology approvals ? 7.6 vs. 8.0 years, Tufts writes in its analysis.

Between 2007 and 2011, total development times for oncology and non-oncology NBEs were both about 6.4 years and 7.6 years for oncology and non-oncology NCEs. During the past decade, Tufts finds that total development time for oncology NBEs dropped by 2.5 years, while for NCEs it remained about the same. Among non-cancer meds, both NBEs and NCEs were about six months faster.

Valentine: Threat to punch radio host was a joke

SEATTLE (AP) ? Boston manager Bobby Valentine insisted he wasn't serious Wednesday when he threatened to punch a talk-show host in the mouth.

Hours later, his Red Sox put up little fight at the plate.

Valentine said he made it clear he was kidding when he made the comment during an interview on Boston radio station WEEI with hosts Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley.

"Didn't I go, 'Ha, ha?'" the embattled Valentine asked before his fourth-place team lost 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners. "I don't think physical violence is necessary for 60-year-old people."

Ordway, sighting a newspaper report that Valentine arrived later than normal for a game last week in Oakland, asked if the manager had "checked out" on the season.

Valentine responded on the air:

"What an embarrassing thing to say. If I were there right now, I'd punch you right in the mouth. Ha, ha," he said. "How's that sound? Sound like I checked out? What an embarrassing thing. Why would somebody even, that's stuff that a comic strip person would write. If someone's here, watching me go out at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, working with the young players, watching me put in the right relief pitchers to get a win, putting on a hit-and-run when it was necessary, talking to the guys after the game in the food room ? how could someone in real life say that?"

Meeting later with reporters in Seattle before the game, Valentine acknowledged he took offense to Ordway's question and explained that he arrived at the Coliseum in Oakland later than usual ? but still 3 hours before the game ? because he had picked up his son from the airport and got stuck in traffic.

"If anyone in this room or any other room I've been in in my life wants to question my integrity, I will ask someone to referee that situation," he said.

Valentine added that if a writer "thought that was important and wanted to write seriously about it, they could have asked what the situation was and I would have been happy to tell them. No one asked the reasons."

He went on to describe them.

Valentine said he picked up his son from the San Francisco airport in the morning for his first visit on the road during "this lousy season." The plane was late, then he had to return to his San Francisco hotel to pick up his game information before driving over the Bay Bridge to the Coliseum.

"That was a mistake," Valentine said. "There was traffic around the hotel and an accident on the freeway. I got there a little later than normal, not late. My workday starts at 4:30 p.m., in my opinion. I got to the stadium at 4:04 p.m."

He said he had called in that night's lineup at 2 p.m. and had checked with the trainer on the condition of injured players.

"To see my son for a couple more hours," he said, "is more than worth the trade-off of sitting around in my underwear in the clubhouse for two hours.

"Just ask me the question. Don't think everyone in the room is smart enough to figure out what I meant. That's not my fault."

Valentine said he told his coaches he would be a little late, and he called in to say he was delayed in traffic on his way to "the stupid Oakland Coliseum."

"For someone to say that I was late is an absolute disgrace to their integrity if they have any," he said.

During the radio interview, Valentine went on to say that his first season as Red Sox manager has been "miserable."

Asked to clarify later, he said: "The last two weeks have been very trying. Lots of obstacles in my way and I thought I've jumped them, and sometimes you get knocked down by them.

"It's turned out to be not what I expected. It's been a little misery, yeah," he said. "I'm not sure it's 24/7, but I would think after a loss I'm miserable. ... It's been adventurous, challenging."

Valentine signed a two-year deal last winter and has said he wants to return in 2013. Red Sox management has maintained that no decision will be made until after the season is over.

The last few weeks have not gone well. Boston went 1-8 on a brutal road trip for the club's worst West Coast swing since a 1-8 debacle in September 1989.

"This was not a good road trip, obviously," Valentine said. "One of the worst I've ever experienced."

The Red Sox are 10-24 since Aug. 1.

"I'd like us to play together and show that we've got a lot of pride," Valentine said. "I think we do and I think we'll grind it out, be a spoiler along the way. That would be fun, too."

Kevin Millwood (5-12) allowed four hits and one run over six innings for Seattle in his first victory since July 28. The right-hander had gone 1-8 since May 21.

Dustin Ackley hit a two-run single and Tom Wilhelmsen worked the ninth for his 24th save in 27 opportunities.

Aaron Cook (3-9) went six innings for the Red Sox, giving up two runs and seven hits. He is 1-8 since tossing a two-hit shutout against Seattle on June 29.

"It's time to go home," Cook said. "It was a bad, bad road trip for us. We have an off day tomorrow. Everybody needs to relax."

NOTES: Valentine said when Triple-A Pawtucket finishes its season, the Red Sox might call up "maybe one or two" more players. "I know (GM) Ben (Cherington) is looking around as to who we might add to the roster," the manager said. Valentine would like to have at least one more outfielder. ... OF Ryan Kalish intends to resolve his lingering shoulder issues during the offseason. "He's really concerned with something being done properly," Valentine said. "I don't think it's surgery." ... Dustin Pedroia was hitless in three at-bats, ending his season-high 15-game hitting streak.

Commentary: Whimsical Clint Eastwood Raises Serious Questions

A small sliver of the voters will determine the outcome of a tight presidential race. Yahoo! News asked a handful of undecided voters to keep a running diary: What news stories and events are coloring their choices?

COMMENTARY | LAS VEGAS -- I can't be the only one who was scratching his head, wondering what the hell Clint Eastwood was doing onstage at the Republican National Convention. His invisible Charlie McCarthy routine, talking to the chair representing Obama, made it clear that the old cowboy was never much of a comedian.

While it was obvious the audience was happy to see this iconic Hollywood star, the sweeping camera shots revealed the GOP had already wrapped up the "old white guy" votes.

Eastwood did raise some interesting questions, which he addressed to the empty chair, like, when was Obama going to close the gulag at Guantanamo Bay and when was he going to bring U.S. troops home from Afghanistan. But Romney supporters were surely squirming in their seats because they knew their man would soon be asked those questions, if he should find himself in the Oval Office.

As much as I did enjoy Eastwood's sense of humor, somehow, I couldn't help thinking," They won't let Ron Paul speak and yet we have time for this?"

Clearly, the Republicans take themselves seriously and can't have someone poking fun at their very thin skins. The GOP does not want to play unless they have the opportunity to stack the deck.

(By the way, here's the script I wrote for a Clint Eastwood movie.)

I am still undecided.

Stay tuned.
