Whether you are for or against this or any war, I hope you'll join me in pausing to be thankful to the "all who gave some and the some who gave all" so that people could be free. Neither or I nor my children have served in the military, but they and I enjoy freedom because of it.
Since there are more of us and our children who haven't served in the military than those who now serve and have served, please consider watching any or all of these and if you can, do it with your children who are over the age of 18 so they may appreciate and give thanks to those who have put themselves in harm's way so the rest of us can enjoy freedom. Follow-up to 5 Strategies for Successfully Managing Diabetes...
Back in January I wrote a post detailing 5 strategies I've used to reduce not just my fasting and A1C blood sugar readings, but also my dependency on various medications by at least 50%.

Eat Only When You Are Active
More than a third of all North Americans are obese and
will die prematurely because of their excess fat. WHEN you eat
may be even more important than HOW MUCH you eat. Never eat and
go to bed. The safest time to eat is just before and after you
exercise. Resting after you eat is an invitation for higher blood
sugar and insulin levels, more weight gain, and increased risk
for diabetes and heart attacks. The current obesity epidemic may
well be caused by staying up later at night to snack and watch
television.
MICE ALLOWED TO EAT ALL DAY LONG ARE FATTER. Mice that
are placed on a high-fat diet gain far more weight when they are
supplied with food 24 hours a day than when they can eat only for
8 hours a day, even though they eat the same number of calories
per day (Cell Metabolism, published online May 17, 2012).
Besides weighing more, the mice that could eat all day long had
higher blood sugar and insulin levels, more liver damage, and
higher blood levels of CRP, the blood test that measures
inflammation.
MICE FED ONLY DURING SLEEPING HOURS ARE FATTER THAN THOSE
FED DURING WAKING HOURS. Mice that were allowed to eat only
during the 12 hours that they normally sleep gained significantly
more weight (48 percent weight increase) than mice eating the
same type and amount of food during the 12 hours they are
normally awake (20 percent weight increase). Both groups ate the
same total amount and type of food and were equally active
(Obesity, published online Sept. 3, 2009).
HUMANS WHO SNACK SUFFER MORE DIABETES AND PREMATURE DEATH.
Scientists at Karolinska Institutet surveyed 4,000 60-year-old,
men and women. Compared to those who ate only breakfast, lunch
and dinner, those who snacked between meals had larger waist
circumferences and higher blood sugar, insulin, triglyceride and
cholesterol levels than people who ate regular meals with less
snacking (Obesity, 2008;16 (6):1302). These are all signs
associated with metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart attacks, and
premature death.
STAY ACTIVE AFTER YOU EAT. Resting muscles are inactive
and draw no sugar from your bloodstream. On the other hand,
contracting muscles pull sugar from the bloodstream. They do
not even require insulin to do this. If you eat and stand or
walk, the contracting muscles can pull sugar from your
bloodstream. However, when you eat and sit or lie down, your
muscles draw no sugar from your bloodstream and blood sugar
levels rise higher to increase risk for cell damage.* HIGH INSULIN LEVELS: Your pancreas tries to lower the high
blood sugar level, so it puts out ever increasing amounts of
insulin.
* INCREASED RISK FOR HEART ATTACKS: Insulin constricts the
arteries leading to your heart, to increase risk for a heart
attack.
* HIGH TRIGLYCERIDES: When muscles are inactive, blood sugar
levels rise. The extra sugar goes to your liver and other cells.
Once your liver fills up with its own stored sugar called
glycogen, it cannot store any more sugar. so all extra sugar is
converted to a type of fat called triglycerides.
* LOW GOOD HDL CHOLESTEROL: High triglycerides increase risk for
clotting, so your good HDL cholesterol works to save you by
carrying triglycerides from your bloodstream to your liver. You
use up your good HDL and blood levels of HDL drop.
* FATTY LIVER: The triglycerides accumulate in your liver to
cause a fatty liver. A fatty liver cannot clear sugar from your
bloodstream.
* DIABETES: Since the liver cannot clear sugar from your
bloodstream, you develop even higher blood sugar levels and are
now diabetic.
* HEART ATTACKS AND PREMATURE DEATH. Diabetes markedly increases
risk for heart attacks, strokes, many cancers, and premature
death.

Wall Street struggles to find Facebook's worth
NEW YORK (Reuters) - In its three days of trading, Facebook's stock has dropped 18 percent from its $38 issue price. For the thousands of investors that bought at the IPO, that's bad enough, but one analysis of its earnings prospects suggests it could get a lot worse - more like $10 a share.
Setting aside the hype and the cultural phenomenon that is the online networking site, Facebook Inc would be fairly priced at $9.59, according to the smattering of Wall Street estimates analyzed and modeled by Thomson Reuters StarMine.
Data from six brokerages modeled by StarMine forecast the company's estimated annualized earnings growth over the next 10 years at 10.8 percent. That's almost exactly the mean for the technology sector and far below the 24 percent growth rate implied by the current stock price.
Some analysts, however, see the stock returning to the $40 per share level it traded at last week.
"Investors are looking for much more growth than the analysts covering the company," said Greg Harrison, corporate earnings research analyst at Thomson Reuters.
Starmine's intrinsic value estimate incorporates analyst estimates for the next five years of growth and then models another five years of steadily slower growth trends based on industry averages.
It is possible that its data will change as more analyst estimates become available. Underwriters are restricted from issuing research on a company for 40 days, and Facebook has a number of underwriters, led by Morgan Stanley.
Investor confidence in the shares has been damaged after Reuters reported lead underwriter Morgan Stanley cut its revenue forecasts for Facebook in the days before the offering, in part because of comments from Facebook on mobile usage.
After pricing at $38, far more than the first estimate of $28 the company gave investors, shares have been sliding - at one point as much as 31 percent from the $45 peak hit shortly after it started trading Friday.
"Facebook right now is going for far more than what it's worth, it's like buying $1 for $1.98, it just doesn't make sense at this price," said Eddy Elfenbein, widely followed blogger and editor at Crossing Wall Street.
Starmine's analysis of Google Inc's value puts that stock at $680, assuming a growth rate of 10.1 percent for the next 10 years. That makes the Internet giant undervalued at $599 a share.
"Just from basic modeling the stock should be around $17 to $20 dollars, and that is with a lot of variables," Elfenbein said. "I would call that an ideal price. I would be interested in buying and I think that is a good deal for investors."
The $9.59 level is less than one-third of the trough of $30.94 hit Tuesday.
Starmine's views sometimes differ markedly from the market's way of seeing fast-growing companies. For instance, Salesforce.com Inc currently trades around $149 a share - but Starmine sees it as a $31 stock.
ANALYST CHANGES
Morgan Stanley told major clients of its forecast changes after Facebook filed an amended prospectus with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where it expressed caution about revenue growth due to a rapid shift by users to mobile devices.
Firms that are not underwriting IPOs often change forecasts during such times. At least of those, Susquehanna Financial Group, did so in a research note on May 14, lowering its quarterly revenue estimates for 2012 and 2013.
In the note, analyst Herman Leung references Facebook's regulatory filing from May 9, where the company said it was seeing more users in mobile where ads have less penetration.
"We lowered our numbers after they put out their updated S-1," Leung told Reuters in an interview.
"I don't know what the company had said to the underwriters specifically, or why the underwriters adjusted (their revenue estimates), but my guess it that's probably the reason."
Leung has maintained $48 price target on the stock. He said shares have fallen in part because underwriters overestimated the retail and institutional demand, along with allocation issues, and "noise" like General Motors' move to stop advertising on Facebook.
"That does not change my fundamental view of the company," Leung said. Susquehanna is a market-maker in the shares of Facebook.
Shares were down more than 8 percent on Tuesday and volumes were still high, making Facebook the third-most active issue on U.S. exchanges.
"Almost without exception (brokers) are saying it is oversold, and it's a good opportunity to buy in the pullback," said Tim Murphy, general manager for the Americas at TIM Group, which transmits and tracks equity trade ideas from 750 brokerage firms for institutional investors.
"Some are saying it could be back in the $40 level in the next few weeks."

Gary Giordano, Robyn Gardner Murder Suspect, Arrested For Indecent Exposure
Gary Giordano, the suspect in the disappearance of Robyn Gardner in Aruba, was arrested in Maryland for shagging some woman in the back of a car.
Giordano, 51, was found naked in the back of a Cadillac Escalade with Carol Bock, 45, of Tennessee. They were both arrested for indecent exposure.
They were discovered by Annapolis police responding to a call of possible sexual activity inside a car in a parking garage last Friday evening.
When officers shined a light through an SUV window, the pair were seen lying naked on a mattress in the rear cargo area, according to reports.
Even with a blanket hanging "in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal their activity,” the couple's cover was blown and they were busted.
Giordano had been a suspect in the disappearance of Robyn Gardner in Aruba in August 2011. He claimed she never returned from a snorkeling trip.
Authorities questioned his story and kept him in jail for months until a judge ordered him released last November. No charges have been filed.
The Robyn Gardner case remains unsolved; she was never found. The indecent exposure charge carries a $1,000 fine or up to three years in jail.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? For Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, it was quite a week ? from birthday, to IPO, to I DO.
A day after the historic Facebook stock offering, Zuckerberg on Saturday wed 27-year-old Priscilla Chan, his girlfriend of nearly a decade, according to a guest authorized to speak for the couple. The person spoke only on the condition of anonymity.
Zuckerberg gave his new bride a ring he had designed with a "very simple ruby" to end an incredibly eventful week, according to the guest.
The couple married at his Palo Alto, Calif. home in front of fewer than 100 stunned guests who thought they would be attending a party to celebrate Chan's graduation from medical school.
On Monday, Zuckerberg turned 28 and Chan graduated from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, where she'd studied pediatrics.
Then on Friday, Zuckerberg took his blue-and-white web behemoth public in one of the most anticipated IPOs in Wall Street history.
The seemingly well-coordinated timing was largely a coincidence, the guest said. The wedding had been planned for months and the couple was waiting for Chan to finish medical school, but the date of the IPO was a "moving target" not known when the wedding was set.
Attendees, including Facebook's chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, were told after they arrived that they were not mere party guests but wedding guests.
"Everybody was shocked," the guest said.
The person would not discuss the names of others who attended to protect their privacy.
Ditching his trademark hoodie and sneakers, Zuckerberg sported a dark blue suit and tie with a white shirt for the ceremony, while Chan wore a traditional white wedding dress with veil and lace.
Food was served family-style and included dishes from the couple's favorite Palo Alto sushi restaurant.
Zuckerberg met Chan at Harvard, where he founded Facebook in a dorm room in 2004, and have been together for more than nine years.
Chan's own Facebook page, which now lists her as married to the founder, said she is a native of Braintree, Mass., and attended high school in nearby Quincy.
She graduated Harvard in 2007 then taught science to fourth and fifth graders at the Harker School in San Jose for two years before starting medical school, according to her profile.
Her page also says she "loves cooking and soft things."
Even after the IPO, Zuckerberg, who grew up in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., remains Facebook's single largest shareholder, with 503.6 million shares, and he controls the company with 56 percent of its voting stock.
The site has grown into a worldwide network of almost a billion people and made its founder, Time magazine's Person of the Year in 2010, one of the most famous businessmen of the Internet age.

Some systems require you to simply wash out the filter and replace it without you having to purchase a brand new filter. If you do need to replace your filter, pull out the old one and dispose of it. Then put the new filter into your unit. Be sure to regularly clean or replace your air conditioning filter in order to ensure that your system is operating as efficiently as possible.
4. Test your system Now it's time to test and ensure that everything is working as it should. Replace the cover of your air conditioning unit (after removing the plastic sheeting) and turn on the power. If everything is working as it should be, check for any air leaks that are present. Hal Holbrook wins Twain Lifetime Achievement Award

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) ? Actor Hal Holbrook has been performing as Mark Twain for six decades. Now, he's getting an award named after the author and humorist.
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum in Hannibal, Mo., said Wednesday that Holbrook is the first-ever recipient of the Mark Twain Lifetime Achievement Award to honor those whose life's work has furthered the legacy of the literary icon.
Holbrook will be presented the award when he appears at Hannibal High School on Nov. 17 to perform "Mark Twain Tonight!"
Holbrook has been portraying Twain since 1954, and won a Tony award for "Mark Twain Tonight!" in 1966. He authored a memoir, "Harold: The Boy Who Became Mark Twain."
The award was created in collaboration with the centennial of the Twain home and museum.
